Eco-packaging is used for Johnny Z's latest release and all lyrics are printed within the gatefold of the album's sleeve, where the background is comprised of an inverted map of the world and reflective of the times we're experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most of these songs were written, recorded and released by Johnny Z, during this period. The notable exceptions are "Homeward Bound", which was written by Marta Keen (Thompson). Johnny Z was contracted to record it for an independent film biography, where it opens the film and is later reprised near the middle of that work. "Hard Times Come Again No More" is the Stephen Foster classic, which Johnny rearranges for acoustic guitar and voice.

GO AWAY, RONA! words and music by Johnny Stephen Zawacki So much has changed, that much I know We're standing still, with nowhere to go The truth is that I've failed, though I've tried It's not just me who's stuck inside Go away Rona, you've hung around much way too long, just go away Go away Rona, it's not with you that I belong, so just go away We've been warned of consequence But nothing is making much sense Infectious yes, no one can resist We might ignore, but you still persist Go away Rona, you've hung around much way too long, just go away Go away Rona, it's not with you that I belong, so just go away I'm staying in now every night I'll keep my distance, as best I might You're out everywhere, I've heard them say I only want you, Rona, to go away I've tried to wash and be free of you But, now I need more than thinking anew We come together and know that you're there Just like a ghost that's borne in the air Go away Rona, you've hung around much way too long, just go away Go away Rona, it's not with you that I belong, so just go away Behind a mask I hide, but not blind And hoping that it's not me you'll find The challenge is to keep you at bay If only you would just go away Go away Rona, you've hung around much way too long, just go away Go away Rona, it's not with you that I belong, so just go away © 2020 Piano Street Music, BMI All rights reserved. Something's All Right words and music by Johnny Zawacki Why don't we make it while we can? Why don't we make it while we can, tonight? And if we try you know we can Yes, if we try you know we can Because there's something on my mind And I fear it will go away in time Something's all right tonight, tonight Why don't we take it while we can? Why don't we take it while we can, tonight? There's no mistaking that we can Yes, no mistaking that we can, tonight Because there's something on my mind And I fear it will go away in time Something's all right tonight, tonight Can't make it alone Not anymore, not anymore Yeah, there's something on my mind And I fear it will go away in time Something's all right, something's all right Yeah, something's all right tonight, tonight Tonight, tonight © 2021 Piano Street Music, BMI All rights reserved. Homeward Bound written by Marta Keen (Thompson) arranged by Johnny Stephen Zawacki In the quiet mist morning, when the moon has gone to bed When the sparrows stop their singing and the sky is clear and red When the summer's ceased its gleaming, when the corn is past it's prime When adventure's lost its meaning, I'll be homeward bound in tiime Bind me no to the pasture Chain me not to the plow Ste me free to find my calling And I'll return to you somehow If you find it's me you're missing, if you're hoping I'll return To your thoughts I'll soon be list'ning; in the road I'll stop and turn Then the wind will set me racing as my journey nears its end And the path I'll be retracing when I'm homeward bound again Bind me not to the pasture Chain me not to the plow Set me free to find my calling And I'll return to you somehow In the quiet misty morning, when the moon has gone to bed When the sparrows stop their singing I'll be homeward bound again © 1991, 2003 Alfred Publishing Co Inc All rights reserved. Shannon Colleen words and music by James Stafford Jersey and Johnny Stephen Zawacki Gazing through the glass, controlling my awe A moment I'd steal from that which I saw Then my heart opened wide and these eyes filled with tears Pushing back the thoughts I've concealed all these years I thought she'd be a boy-child who would carry my name That I would have loved, exactly the same But a daughter is special, so soft and so warm She glistened with charm, only ten minutes born Have her, I do Love her, I will Now, in my life Shannon fulfills Have her, I do Love her, I will Now, in my life Shannon fulfills What I never knew I was missing Oh, I never knew what I was missing There's such a short time, before had not been This little girl life, my Shannon Colleen You see, I thought she'd be a boy-child who would carry my name That I would have loved, exactly the same But a daughter is special, so soft and so warm She glistened with charm, only ten minutes born Have her, I do Love her, I will Now, in my life Shannon fulfills Have her, I do Love her I will Now, in my life Shannon fulfills What I never knew I was missing Oh, I never knew what I was missing No, I never knew what I was missing at all © 2015 Piano Street Music, BMI All rights reserved. Christopher (I'll Hold You Young) words and music by Johnny Stephen Zawacki It's a new world my dear, Christopher Take your name and off you go No one's slowing you, my Christopher Falling back, I'm all aglow I'll hold you young and in my heart And even though we're miles apart Let's share the day before the sun begins to flee A hug, once more, I'll let you go And as we part our love will know The night falls soft, so close your eyes, remember me For now you're, again, Christopher And your smile, it falls my way Don't let Chris return, when Christopher Can let me relive yesterday And I'll hold you young and in my heart And even though we're miles apart Let's share the day before the sun begins to flee A hug, once more, I'll let you go And as we part our love will know The night falls soft, so close your eyes, remember And in the quiet, I will remember In the quiet I'll not forget In the quiet comes my December In the quiet with no regret You will always be my Christopher Though everyone might call you Chris So, if I should call you Christopher Please don't mind it's just my wish To hold you young and in my heart And even though we're miles apart We'll share the day before the sun begins to flee A hug, once more, I'll let you go And as we part our love will know The night falls soft, so close your eyes, remember You will always be my Christopher You will always be my Christopher You will always be my Christopher © 2016 Piano Street Music, BMI All rights reserved. No Rearview Mirror words and music by Johnny Stephen Zawacki No choices in the making Our fate tossed into the wind Yeah, something more fundamental Was about to begin Hold on and grip it firmly As we fly on down this ol' road The wheel's are spinning faster Not sure, don't care, what's to unfold But the radio's up and the pedal's down Windows wide, it's our playground And as we go, it's becoming clearer That we won't need no rearview mirror Where did we start? I don't remember It doesn't matter much to me Just keep going straight ahead, boy The road is all we need to see And the radio's up and the pedal's down Windows wide, it's our playground And as we go, it's becoming clearer That we won't need no rearview mirror Two lanes aren't enough to hold us Speed limits can't ever slow us Don't look back, join us Feel the breeze Where are we now? I couldn't tell you Landmarks mean nothing to me No goals, nor need of compass Living is all that we need Still, the radio's up and the pedal's down Windows wide, it's our playground Just keep on going, now it's much clearer That we won't need a rearview mirror No, we don't need no rearview mirror © 2021 Piano Street Music, BMI All rights reserved. Not This Way 03:40
Not This Way words by James Stafford Jersey music by Johnny Stephen Zawacki For years, I had hoped that the demons that you battled would release you That the calls for money, calls for rescue from danger would stop Not this way Not this way That the calls you were in trouble, being arrested, that you were stranded That you had no place to stay, I yearned for all of this to stop No, not this way Not this way The ver present fear for your well being, wondering where you were Not knowing, not hearing, I ached for all of this to end Oh, no, no, no, not this way Not this way Though I know, I know there's a peace That you've found, but it's not for me Still I love you I love and miss you My dear Oh, my dear My dear My dear © 2021 Piano Street Music, BMI All rights reserved. AS DARKNESS FALLS words and music by Johnny Stephen Zawacki You don't want to go, you don't know it's finally time Nothing's up to you, nothing's new, it's redefined You don't mind You don't mind Why? Your enablers all, without sight they fall in line Down with you they'll go, take the hate, say your goodbyes You don't mind You don't mind Why? As darkness falls, so falls the guise The émigrés, we realize There's not a wall of any size And those returned, not it applies In hallowed halls, reverberating lies The lines are drawn, while tensions rise And all that you do and say is unwise Wipe what's discerned, the land's demise You refuse to go and know, though comes your time It's not up to you, that we'll do and redefine It's now time It's now time It's now time It's now time © 2020 Piano Street Music, BMI All rights reserved. The Four Horsemen from Revelation 6:1-8 adaptation, additional words and music by Johnny Stephen Zawacki I looked, and behold, there was a white horse And he who sat on it had a bow With a crown given him as he went out To conquer and conquering, as he rode And the next, fiery red, as it went out With a rider given power to take the peace And men would rise to kill one another The great sword, he was given, is our caprice It's the last hour, the Deceiver comes Though many we've known here before And so, it is done An escaping no more So I looked, and behold there was a black horse And a rider holding scales in his hand Saying, "A measure of wheat for a penny, Three measures of barley, the same, But don't harm the oil and the wine!" I looked, and behold, there was a pale horse On it was Death and Hades close behind And given power to kill a fourth of the earth By sword, famine, plague, and bests, so combined © 2021 Piano Street Music, BMI All rights reserved. Hard Times Come Again No More words and music by Stephen Collins Foster arrangement by Johnny Stephen Zawacki Let us pause in life's pleasures and count it's many tears While we all sup sorrow with the poor There's a song that will linger forever in our ears Oh, hard times come again no more 'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary Hard times, hard times, come again no more Many days you have lingered around my cabin door Oh, hard time come again no more While we seek mirth and beauty and music light and gay There are frail forms fainting at the door Though their voices are silent, their pleading looks will say: Oh, hard times come again no more 'Tis the song, the sigh of the weary Hard times, hard times come again no more Many days you have lingered around my cabin door; Oh, hard times come again no more 'Tis the the song, the sigh of the weary Hard times, hard times come again no more Many days you have lingered around my cabin door; Oh, hard times come again no more So many days you have lingered around my cabin door; Oh, hard times come again no more Oh, hard times come again no more Public Domain, originally published in 1854 by Firth Pond & Co

about

2020 proved to be a difficult year, for everyone, with barriers that interrupted our normal lives. Rather than wait it out, Johnny Zawacki (aka Johnny Z) saw an opportunity to expand his musical footprint, in place of those that were erased because of the COVID-19 pandemic. His first order of business was to write, completing 10 new songs, during that ill-fated year. Interspersed between this daily activity, he released two new internet singles, along with music videos to support these. The first, based on the pandemic, “Go Away, Rona!”, and then another, capturing the American political climate, “As Darkness Falls”. Different treatments are given to these two songs, within Mind the Gap.

Five of these songs were written during the pandemic. The others are comprised of previously written, but never recorded songs, including a collaboration with Jim Jersey, on two of the 10. Another was a cover he was contracted to write, for an independent international film release, “Homeward Bound” by Marta Keen (Thompson). While the song closing out this album is a Public Domain classic, penned by Stephen Foster.
